Baby Herding

A little taste of the herding necessary to get a couple of (imperfect) baptism gown pictures. We don't get a lot of video of the babies yet as we are always holding them. They are starting to have more tummy time on the floor though and more video (and pictures) of the tykes will start to appear.

Best Friends!

For all the minor tussles that go on between the kids Jack and Violet remain Best Friends. They hang out all the time and play games - make believe princesses, princes, monsters, bears, picnics, cars, pirates, you name it. Oh and Jack will don the leotard t dance with his big sister.

You look'n at me tough guy!?!

Our sweet kids. (Ben is in the green shirt)

Even though this picture of the boys was taken a few months ago, they are still cuddling up to each other in the same crib. The moving up next to each other does not wake them up as they are usually close to being on the same schedule. Georgia, while she often starts the day at the same time, goes her own way.

One of the many great things about having another daughter is that I get to revisit some of Violet's cutest little outfits. It may seem shallow, but it really brings me back to when Violet was tiny. Each of her little dresses (V always wore dresses) reminds of the reason I bought it, or the person who gave it to us. It's like having a little fashion time machine. I put in this photo because this is one of my favorites - not because of the great composition (who cut off our heads?). I was going to blame Violet with her burgeoning interest in the camera, but she is clearly visible in the photo. Sorry Ron, you are going to have to take the blame for this one.

On Sunday October 11, Aunt Sharon got married in a lovely daytime outdoor wedding. The setting was beautiful. However, combine the unpredictability of a fall day with unseasonable cold temps and you get one frozen wedding party. The glow of the bride and the touching ceremony helped warm the guests - and lucky for us (unlike the bridal party) we wore coats!

After the ceremony, we moved indoors to enjoy a champagne brunch and dancing. Violet and Jack especially loved the dancing. This time the babies had to miss the fun. They are just so much work that Ron and I could not relax at all if they were with us. Luckily, Luke and Stacie offered to come to our house and take care of them. In order to help them keep Ben and Dashiell straight, I wrote down in their feeding log what each baby was wearing. Apparently in my haste and general disorganization, I confused the outfit to boy and ended up writing down the opposite.
So all day long Ben was Dashiell and Dashiell was Ben. When we returned home, Luke inquired as to their identities intimating that something was amiss. I poo poo'd him thinking he didn't know what he was talking about, but he planted a seed. I looked a little closer and sure enough he was right. All well that ends well, Ben is Ben again and Dash is Dash. This is the first of two switch ums we have had so far. To all concerned readers, we do have a failsafe. About 2 months after his birth Ben developed a small birthmark on his lower back.

So many parties, so little time

Violet's 4th Birthday has come and gone, but it did not go uncelebrated (or undocumented despite the lack of a timely post).

For her first friend birthday party, Violet had a real blowout. Since our place is slightly overcrowded, Aunt Sarah sponsored a party a real cool place called The Kids Table. Violet and her friends made their own individual pizzas, rolling out the dough, spreading the sauce and choosing the toppings. While the pizza's baked, the kids made fresh lemonade and fruit kabobs. Finally everyone got to frost their own little cake. All this while the parents enjoyed an adult beverage! - what a great idea Sarah -

It was really fun and I hope Violet has some great memories (I know I do). Thanks to everyone who was able to share in this with us. And a special thanks to Aunt Sarah, world's greatest sis.

In her preschool class she was crowned queen of the day and brought a special treat for her classmates. Things have changed quite a bit since I was in school, and treats no longer get to be eaten in class and must be in sealed packages. So no homemade cupcakes for me to make; instead she brought fruit leather. I also skated on making her a cake for home as well. Grampy, who was spending the week with us, splurged on a fancy bakery cake. Violet loved it and it was as delicious as it was beautiful. I could think of no more perfect cake for my princess/fairy obsessed daughter than this ethereal stunner. Lately when Violet wakes up and recounts her dreams, they are always about fairies.
